2003 Setena White Terra Alta, Spain Name Story Setena is the Catalan word for one-seventh—the amount of the harvest that farmers in ancient Spain paid landowners for the right to work the land. Winemaker Xavier Clua Vineyards | Winemaking Old vines on well-draining clay and chalk soils high on the terraced hills southwest of Barcelona. Lees fermented and aged in French oak barrels for 6 months (100% new). Grapes 70% Garnacha Blanca, 20% Chardonnay, 10% Sauvignon Blanc. Picked: September 1–15, 2003. Tasting Notes Aroma: Intensely floral with apricot, vanilla and anise notes. Taste: Apricot, pear, citrus and hazelnut with a velvety finish.

Winemaker Philippe Melka Vineyards | Winemaking Volcanic soils on a hillside vineyard in the heart of the Napa Valley. Cold soak and extended maceration. Aged for 18 months in French oak (70% new). Grapes 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 8% Syrah. Picked: November 5, 2002. Tasting Notes Aroma: Rose petals, Asian spice, vanilla and cherry. Taste: Blueberry, sage, anise and spice. An elegant and voluptuous wine with soft, refined tannins.

2003 Sygnet McLaren Vale, Australia Name Story Sygnet is the name of the river valley that flows near Australia's most celebrated vineyards in the McLaren Vale, south of Adelaide. Winemaker John Duval Vineyards | Winemaking Old vines with an average age of more than 60 years. Rich, sandy soils over deep red clay. Cold soak and extended maceration. Aged 20 months in French and American oak barrels (100% new). Grapes 100% Shiraz. Picked: March 2–3, 2003. Tasting Notes Aroma: Blackcurrant, mulberry and chocolate with hints of licorice and spice. Taste: Dark berry fruit with firm tannins.

2002 Taralula Toscana, Italy Name Story Taralula is named for Tara, the ancient goddess of eternal light and unconditional love who governs the Earth and the moon. Winemaker Giuseppe Maria Sesti Vineyards | Winemaking Pliocene sediment and galestro soils on Montalcino's favored southern hills. Aged for 20 months in 225 little French oak barrels (100% new). Grapes 100% Sangiovese. Picked: September 16, 2002. Tasting Notes Aroma: Sandalwood, clove, mint, and tobacco. Taste: Plum, dark berries and cocoa; full-bodied, with rounded tannins.

2004 Portia Bianco delle Venezie - Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy Name Story Portia is derived from the Latin word for "gift" and is the name that Shakespeare gave to his brilliant and beautiful heroine from this splendid region in The Merchant of Venice. Winemaker Giorgio Venica Vineyards | Winemaking Hillside vineyards planted in rocky marl and sandstone soils bordered by Slovenia to the east and the Adriatic to the south. Temperature-controlled fermentation and partial malolactic fermentation. Grapes 45% Pinot Grigio, 45% Chardonnay, 10% Tocai Friulano. Picked: September 12–20, 2004 Tasting Notes Aroma: Seductive floral notes with hints of citrus and a fresh mineral core. Taste: Elegant and crisp with flavors of green apple and pear and a bold finish.
