Here are 15,000 cases of the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve. Composed of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, and aged in 100% new French oak for 22-24 months, it is a sensational effort. The opaque plum/purple color is followed by a superb nose of smoked herbs, melted licorice, and black currant jam. Full-bodied, with a silky texture, and an opulent personality, this sexy, full-throttle Cabernet Sauvignon will be delicious young, yet last for 18-20 years.
Reviewer Wine Advocate Robert Parker 94 points.

Beringer's Private Reserve has always been one of my favorite California Cabernets, particularly since the late seventies. They can be drunk young, but age exceptionally well, giving every indication of holding their fruit and evolving nicely for two decades. The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is full-bodied and powerful, with aggressive tannin levels, as well as equally impressive levels of extract, glycerin, and fruit. It offers up a toasty, smoky, chocolate, licorice, and earthy-scented nose, rich, powerful flavors, admirable body, and mouthsearing tannin in the finish. Reviewer Wine Advocate Robert Parker 92-95 points.
