Italian businessman Antonio Moretti owns 158 acres, located in four separate parcels, in Chianti's Colli Aretini region southeast of Florence. Moretti hired enologist Carlo Ferrini to help craft the flagship red, Oreno, a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Sette Ponti also makes Crognolo, which is Sangiovese with a dollop of Merlot. It's the winery's debut on our Top 100. From Tuscany.
Winery: Sette Ponti Score: 95
Wine: Toscana Oreno 2001 Highly Recommended
Dark, with fantastic aromas of currant, blackberry, spice and lightly toasty oak. Full-bodied, with very well-integrated tannins and a texture as fine as the best cashmere from Scotland. Superb. Needs time in the bottle to show its full potential. One of the new hot wines of Tuscany. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best after 2008. 3,330 cases made. (JS)
