Winemaker Esme Johnstone Vineyards | Winemaking Clay and gravel soil over a limestone base. 50 to 70 year old vines from southwest of Pomerol. Hand picked and sorted. Cold fermented for 8-10 weeks at 12 degrees Celsius. Grapes 100% Merlot. Picked: September 29–October 7, 2004. Tasting Notes Aroma: Bursting with scents of summer fruits. Taste: Rich and full with flavors of strawberry, raspberry and blackberry with a lasting finish
Oriel gattopardo nero davola
2004 Il Gattopardo Sicilia, Italy Name Story Il Gattopardo or "The Leopard" is named for Giuseppe di Lampedusa's classic novel, a sensuous social commentary on Sicily's aristocratic past. Winemaker Peter Vinding-Diers Vineyards | Winemaking Low-yielding, old vines in stony soils on the Southernmost tip of Sicily near the Ionian Sea. Careful selection and temperature-controlled fermentation with native yeasts. Bottled unfined and unfiltered after aging in French oak for 6 months. Grapes 100% Nero d'Avola. Picked: October 19, 2004. Tasting Notes Aroma: Blackberry and redcurrant. Taste: Fresh cherry with hints of coffee and chocolate with soft, round tannins and a lingering finish.

2004 Jasper Russian River Valley, USA Name Story Jasper is named for a red semi-precious stone found in California with legendary properties to drive away evil spirits and to offer healing powers. Winemaker Dan Goldfield Vineyards | Winemaking Dijon clones planted on cool sloping hillsides with sandy loam soils. Small lots fermented in open-top containers. Cold soaked for several days and punched down by hand. Aged for 10 months in French oak (25% new) Grapes 100% Pinot Noir. Picked: Sept. 3–20, 2004. Tasting Notes Aroma: Blackberry, cranberry and caramel cream. Taste: Black cherry and blackberry. Pomegranate and vanilla spice finish, with fine, silky tannins.

2002 Midnight Rambler Rutherford, USA Name Story Midnight Rambler is named for our winemaker who walks the vineyards the night of the harvest, checking the grapes for perfect ripeness. Winemaker Gerry Rowland Vineyards | Winemaking Alluvial fan: clay, loam and gravel soils. Cold soak, extended maceration. Aged for 18 months in French oak (100% new). Grapes 100% Cabernet Sauvignon AXR1 vines. Picked: October 22, 2002. Tasting Notes Aroma: Wild berry medley, violets, boysenberry. Taste: Cherry, plum, Rutherford dust and spice.

2004 Ortolan Falkenstein, Austria Name Story Ortolan is named for the songbird found in Weinviertel's vineyards whose melody is said to have inspired Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Winemaker Christoph Körner Vineyards | Winemaking Vineyards at the foot of the Falkenstein cliffs. Rich soil mixed with weathered shell limestone over a layer of moisture-retaining clay. Hand-picked grapes and slow, temperature-controlled fermentation. Grapes 100% Grüner Veltliner. Picked October 23–28, 2004. Tasting Notes Aroma: Delicate apple and pear with spicy white pepper overtones. Taste: Crisp, fresh green apple with hints
