2001 Alma de Llicorella
Priorat, Spain
Name Story
Alma de Llicorella is named for the dark, dense slate soils unique to the Priorat region that impart interesting mineral characteristics to the wine.

Vineyards | Winemaking
Slate/quartzite soils. Extensive leaf thinning and green harvest. 10–15 days temperature controlled fermentation (to a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius), 15 days post-fermentation maceration. Aged for 13 months in French and American oak (50% new).
Grapes
40% Garnacha, 40% Cariñena, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot, 2% Syrah (average age 28 years). Picked: August 29–October 2, 2001.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Kirsch liqueur, raspberry and plum with mineral tones. Taste: Plum and wild berries with licorice and spice; warm and earthy with velvety tannins and a firm structure

Barona is named for a legendary Celtic fortress whose ancient ruins stand on a spectacular peninsula overlooking the Atlantic Ocean near the border with Portugal.

Rocky soils with 18-year old Albariño vines sited high atop the hills overlooking the inlet in the Rosal region of Rias Baixas. Picked by hand in small baskets. Prefermentation maceration and bottled unfiltered.

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Redolent with floral notes and hints of grapefruit and fresh herbs. Taste: Full bodied with apricot and peach flavors, lingering acidity, and a rich, creamy texture.

Sand and chalk soils in the Monforte d'Alba region of Barolo. Temperature controlled fermentation. Aged for 30 months in French oak barrels (100% new) and bottle aged for 12 months before release.

Aroma: Rich, complex and earthy with a broad bouquet. Taste: Deep plum and dark fruit flavors with hints of chestnut, mushroom and white truffles.
